Publisher Description

From the New York Times–bestselling author of Furiously Happy.

When Jenny Lawson was little, all she ever wanted was to fit in. That dream was cut short by her fantastically unbalanced father and a morbidly eccentric childhood. It did, however, open up an opportunity for Lawson to find the humor in the strange shame-spiral that is her life, and we are all the better for it.

In the irreverent Let’s Pretend This Never Happened, Lawson’s long-suffering husband and sweet daughter help her uncover the surprising discovery that the most terribly human moments—the ones we want to pretend never happened—are the very same moments that make us the people we are today. For every intellectual misfit who thought they were the only ones to think the things that Lawson dares to say out loud, this is a poignant and hysterical look at the dark, disturbing, yet wonderful moments of our lives.

Hilarious and Inspiring

I love how real Jenny Lawson is. I can’t wait to start reading the next one!

Road Trip Fodder

got the audiobook and now I regret it. The content is funny and entertaining but something about her voice is grating. I guess I had crafted my own version of what she sounded like in my head by reading her blog and now the sweet high-pitched sorority sister voice doesn't match the content.

While its always ideal to have the author read their own work, this one kind of felt like Jeanine Garofalo reading the 50's Shades of Grey.

Talented writer, but not enough substance

I wanted to like this audiobook. Jenny is funny and obviously a talented writer. However, there is not much substance to the book. Which, for a blog, is fine, because random daily ramblings can be a lovely 15 minute break to laugh in the midst of a long work day.

But for an 8-hour book, these ramblings and tangents, with no real story, quickly become boring (and annoying).

Also, she shouldn't have done the audiobook. I almost stopped listening within the first 60 seconds of hearing her voice read the intro.
