This is a book about gaining freedom not just in the physical but mental as well and understanding the capacity and gravity of fated love. Finding the strength to not run but stand and fight is a chance that many women never got. Kennedy writes this heart-wrenching story that leads to grace, freedom, love and ultimately, the strength of a woman whose silence became her kryptonite and her finding herself became her strength. Although some parts were hard to read because of the front row seat to Iris trauma, August West in his diligence and undiluted love overshadowed the pain.

So excited to start this series. Very intense but great storytelling. Read the pb not ab, just wanted to document lol.

Kennedy Ryan shines light on the uglier sides of humanity with such care and purpose. This book does superior justice to one of the many experiences and outcomes of physical, emotional, and mental abuse in domestic relationships; this one affiliating with a celebrity vantage point. Although this book has an HEA for our heroine, Iris… many men and women aren’t so lucky in our reality.

I appreciated Kennedy Ryan’s care for not cheapening the importance of domestic violence with too much steam concerning our hero and heroine, August and Iris. The main focus was easily identifiable with unfair repercussions, gaslighting, isolation, blackmail, narcissism, sabotage, etc.

The audiobook was so compelling and I immersed easily. Sean and Jo are some of my favorite narrators; they completely embody the character, situation, and tone of this book.

This is a sensitive read! Be kind to yourself! There are trigger warnings so definitely have integrity with and for yourselves. There are a few scenes with on-page rape, nothing too explicit (for me) but that may not be the case for you.

Worth the read!
