He wasn’t born with the name Maniac Magee. He came into this world named Jeffrey Lionel Magee, but when his parents died and his life changed, so did his name. And Maniac Magee became a legend. Even today kids talk about how fast he could run; about how he hit an inside-the-park “frog” homer; how no knot, no matter how snarled, would stay that way once he began to untie it. But the thing Maniac Magee is best known for is what he did for the kids from the East Side and those from the West Side.

Maniac Is A Great Character
Jeffery is a great character in the book. He becomes maniac by many ways. Hester and Lester are just like Piper and Russell. I feel bad for him about his parents and Aunt Dot & Uncle Dan. He is very brave. The Beales took good care of maniac. I wonder why Hector street is spilt into the East End and the West End. Mars Bar calls maniac fishbelly. Poor Grayson. :( I love this book. :)

Wonderful memories reading this book
I read this book with my fifth grade class and at its conclusion we turned it into a play with the entire class taking part. It's a wonderful story and I am so thankful to my teacher for introducing me, to it.
