"Vivid and remarkably fresh...Philbrick has recast the Pilgrims for the ages."

New York Times Book Review Top Ten books of the Year

How did America begin? That simple question launches the acclaimed author of Bunker Hill and Valiant Ambition on an extraordinary journey to understand the truth behind our most sacred national myth: the voyage of the Mayflower and the settlement of Plymouth Colony. As Philbrick reveals in this electrifying history of the Pilgrims, the story of Plymouth Colony was a fifty-five year epic that began in peril and ended in war. New England erupted into a bloody conflict that nearly wiped out the English colonists and natives alike. These events shaped the existing communities and the country that would grow from them.

Mayflower: a Story of Courage, Community and War

I am a direct decendent of William Bradford and have read a little about his life but this book gave me real insight into the man and the times in which he lived. I also found that history once again is constantly repeating itself and there are many lessons to learn about the conflicts we find ourselves in today. As an audio book this is a great one to listen to and it keeps your attention exceptionally well. I plan to listen to the entire book again this summer with my family as we vacation and spend time together. I am sure it will provide much inspiration for comment and reflection for us all. Thankyou Nathaniel Philbrick for a great piece of our history.

Another great read

I wouldn't consider myself a history buff though I do love learning in general. Both this book and the Essex book had me completely enthralled. Thanks NP for another great read!!

Just ok

The beginning and the end were pretty good to listen to, but the middle was little dry. Decent audio reading though.
