APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Hunker down with some real-life stories about the secrets nature reveals to those who wander the wild. Broadcaster and author Steven Rinella, master of the multimedia MeatEater empire, dedicates his life to hunting in the great American outdoors and sharing what he’s learned with as many people as possible. That includes his Campfire Stories audiobook series. This installment focuses on the amazing things hunters find when they least expect it. We hear about a man in the mountains of Idaho discovering the remains of a bowhunter who disappeared decades ago. A fisherman finds the skeleton of an extinct species of animal above a Texas creek. Things turn outrageous in South Arkansas when turkey season and tornado season overlap. All the stories are narrated by the hunters and fishermen who lived them—no polished delivery or artificial drama, just the real deal. That immediacy puts you right in the moment with them. And Rinella slips a few tales of his own into his introductions. Frightening and funny, shocking and inspiring, these stories could be the soundtrack to your own wilderness journey or just make you feel like you’re on one.
Customer Reviews
Great book, good listen
My third audiobook by the author.
Have become a fan.
Moving stories, some even a little funny stories (not so many, understandably).
This one, apart from a few stories that I skipped since couldn’t take the utter stupidity or/and macho-like attitude of the teller’s story, I enjoyed the book.
Looking forward to the next one!
Great Listen
Great listen for those long road trips
Love this series
Best one so far after listening to all of them. I hope over the years to come there are dozens more of these produced! Thank you Steve and MeatEater crew.
