BE WHO YOU ARE.
When people look at Melissa, they think they see a boy named George. But she knows she's not a boy. She knows she's a girl.

Melissa thinks she'll have to keep this a secret forever. Then her teacher announces that their class play is going to be Charlotte's Web. Melissa really, really, REALLY wants to play Charlotte. But the teacher says she can't even try out for the part... because she's a boy.

With the help of her best friend, Kelly, Melissa comes up with a plan. Not just so she can be Charlotte -- but so everyone can know who she is, once and for all.

I’m trans and this has truly inspired me

I read this in 5th grade and this is the best book i have ever read. I have connected to the character so much and it is truly amazing how i could see myself in the character. I love that you changed it to melissa <3

Amazing story

I loved this book, it’s great for ages 8 and older. Melissa is a girl but everyone thinks she is a boy because she has male body parts. So when she tries out for the fourth grade play, Charlotte’s Web, she can’t play as Charlotte. Because she’s a “boy.” You will find out what happens next if you read this great book! And oh yeah. You have got to stop hating on this book. I can’t believe no one accepts each other and like, dude. What’s wrong with being who you know you are? Can’t believe this book is banned. Just a bunch of straight cis white dudes being all, “this book is banned cuz it not about straight cis white peeps like us.” Dude! We need MORE books about lgbtqia+ not LESS! If a kid isn’t accepted for who they are at their own home, and cannot read any books about people like themselves, they might grow up and feel like they’re “weird” and feel depressed. DO WE WANT TO DEPRESS KIDS???? The answer is no! We are all equal, all human. Not everybody is straight white cis, straight white cis dudes!
Anyway. I’m getting off track haha. I loved this book and I hope you will too. 😀
