I guess it gets the job done...
I purchased this so that I could slack off on my reading for class and, to the extent that it is read word for word, this is an excellent audiobook.
On the other hand, the narrator puts me to sleep. He reads at a rate of about 3min/page, meaning a 30 page reading assignment takes and hour and a half. I wish I had realized how much I would grow to loathe his slow reading... Maybe this would be a better purchase for someone who doesn't have a deadline to meet.

M-D is without a doubt, the greatest novel ever written.
Take that Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Joyce...Who can tolerate your egocentric issues with an oppressive oligarchy when Melville affirms the uniquely American character of self-reliance and its ensuing transcendental mysticism by living a relentless democratic experiment. Hey, Leo, Fydor, Jimmy, have a great day toiling with your brand of euro-neurosis; Ish, Q and I have gone fishing...
Best version ever, by far!
This narration is so perfectly matched to the story in all of its’ subtleties that it adds leagues of comprehension to Melville’s story. I’ve listened to it through and through, about 40 times!! Five stars!
