Secrets are my specialty.

I'm Mai Fairchild --- fox shifter, sister's keeper, and bane of the local werewolf pack. In a world where different is dangerous, my sister and I must pretend to be human at all costs. Too bad I just lost the job that lets me live under the radar while putting food on my sister's plate.

Enter an enticing werewolf who offers enough cash to upgrade our diets from ramen noodles to salami if I join him on a magical hunt. But can I afford to accept the opportunity when the risk of working closely with every fox shifter's sworn enemy is so great?

Fans of Ilona Andrews and Patricia Briggs will love aimee Easterling!

FANS OF AIMEE will need to know nothing more than to see that there is a new "Aimee" book to add it to their collection. I've read almost everything from the above authors, and I feel that Aimee deserves the coveted spot right next to them on the bookshelf! This Trilogy has a beginning, a middle, and an end, Just like the above authors' series. Rather than leaving you hanging, you're left with a feeling of wanting to continue the adventure with the next book.
This series skillfully blends page-turning excitement and plot twists you can never anticipate with thoughtful and thought provoking observations on love, greed, fear, trust, Loyalty, lust for power, and all the other messy stuff that makes up human nature.
Mai and Kira are two sisters alone in the world, having lost both of their parents. They are both smart and creative, but Kira is only 12, and is afraid of being separated from her sister by a sleazy, conniving social worker. So she makes a classic pre-teen mistake by selling her mother's artifacts and source of power to pay the utility bill etc. to keep them in their apartment, and safe from eviction and the social worker who will use any excuse to take Kira away, including showing up in the middle of a Sunday night. She knows that her older sister is doing all she can to keep them fed, housed, and safe, but Mai can't make enough money at her job, though she's doing all she can, and Kira wants to help.
As I said, Kira's not stupid, she's 12. Mai is smart but overwhelmed with the task of taking care of her little sister with no help and nowhere to turn.
Thus starts a chain of events that leads to having to trust a someone whose kind
they have been carefully taught since birth to fear - someone who will kill you.
This theme gets intertwined with people who traditionally should be trusted but may turn out to be more harmful to them than those they've been so carefully taught to fear.
Makes me think, "Do I ever pigeon-hole people like that?"
I received an audio review copy of this trilogy and once started, I couldn't put it down. Stayed "plugged in" for most of the weekend, tossing food at my DH at odd intervals and occasionally saying a distracted, "Huh?" to him.
If you like to read with your ears, The Audible version has a wonderful narrater.
I loved this series and can't wait for Kira's stories.
