“Will shock even the savviest suspense readers.”—Real Simple
Dexter meets Mr. and Mrs. Smith in this wildly compulsive debut thriller about a couple whose fifteen-year marriage has finally gotten too interesting...
Our love story is simple. I met a gorgeous woman. We fell in love. We had kids. We moved to the suburbs. We told each other our biggest dreams, and our darkest secrets. And then we got bored.
We look like a normal couple. We're your neighbors, the parents of your kid's friend, the acquaintances you keep meaning to get dinner with.
We all have our secrets to keeping a marriage alive.
Ours just happens to be getting away with murder.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
A marriage takes a murderous turn in Samantha Downing’s witty debut. When the daily routine of jobs, school, golf tournaments, and soccer practice starts to wear down an unassuming suburban couple, they choose a disturbing extracurricular activity to keep things lively. Audie-winning narrator David Pittu (The Goldfinch) perfectly balances Downing’s gallows humor and the plot’s slow-burning tension. He keeps Downing’s unnamed narrator and his wife, Millicent, strangely relatable and even sympathetic. We were completely enthralled right up to the shocking climax, which made us want to Google all our neighbors.

Interesting with a bit of boredom
This wasn’t a great book but if you’re on a long road trip, it’ll hold your attention until you get to your destination.
Could’ve been better
The plot of the book is a very interesting one. But the narrator drove me nuts with his “girl/woman” voice. It sounded like an SNL skit. Secondly, the way they referred to a serial killer as “Owen” over and over and over again was strange. You’d have thought they were talking about a friend or a family memes the way that he was so personalized. I finished the book because I don’t like to quit in the middle of any reading.
DNF
Too much for me.
