Ex-reporter Joe Winder had been working in the public relations department of a sleazy family entertainment park, The Amazing Kingdom of Thrills, when he chanced upon a news-breaking story inspired by the disappearance of two blue-tongued voles and the bizarre death of Orky, the killer whale.
Expensive Read !!!!
Although a very expensive audio read, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The ex governor is still cranking it up and as in all of Hiaasen's books the cast of characters are entertaining and fun
Funniest of the Hiassen novels, but I can't afford this.
If you don't mind spending $32 to download this, "Native Tongue" is an extremely funny novel by the talented Carl Hiassen, whose talent for snappy dialog is (for me) unmatched by any other contemporary popular author. And the reader, George Wilson, is listenable, from the snippet I heard. But the novel cost me $7!
The only downside, and it may not be a downside to you, is that Hiassen can be preachy at times about the Florida environment, and we are apparently expected to agree with his views. Stephen King's done that too, and it's always felt like an imposition on the reader to me. I don't burden either of those gentlemen with MY views. Just tell the God-damned story! But Hiassen is funny enough so that I can usually overlook it. But after reading half-a-dozen of his novels, I honestly wish he'd give people a break for once. I've never been NEAR Florida, and I have no intention of going to anyplace buggier than where I live now.
With that, all I can add is: Save the Blue-Tongued Mango Vole! Or whatever it is.
I am sure this is a good book....
...but this is the only place I am able to complain about $31!!!!!!! iTunes, what is up???? Yes, Hiaasen is a great author, but the rest of his books, the same length and more recent, are much cheaper. Someone at iTunes has their head up their a**.
