A Masterpiece
Gibson had already imagined a prophetic cyberpunk future in his short stories “Burning Chrome” and “Johnny Neumonic”, but it was with _Neuromancer_ (the first book in what would become “The Sprawl Trilogy”) that he realized his visions of the potential repercussions and societal impact of advanced technological integration and the ethical and practical implications of not only XR but also AI technology. Despite a few lapses in foresight (people are still using pay-phones) the book is prescient of technologies unintended consequences, many of which we are struggling with today.
Robertson Dean is useless!!!!!
This audiobook made me wonder what the selection criteria is for choosing a narrator for any book, let alone a masterpiece such as this one. The final decision to choose Robertson Dean must have come from the publisher because I very much doubt Mr Gibson would have sanctioned this hideous performance! I have read this book several times, and was lucky enough to stumble across Gibson’s own (old) reading of the entire book. And while Gibson is not a “voice professional” his reading is waaaay better than this junk from Robertson Dean. The book is awesome, but I would not recommend this audiobook at all. As mentioned, you are better off looking for Gibson’s version. The audio quality is bad, but the content is much better portrayal of the book.
Waste of time
