Publisher Description

New York Times best-selling author Stephen Hunter returns with his most riveting Bob Lee Swagger volume to date. The stakes are high - and personal - because this time, Swagger's daughter's life is at stake. Forced off the road and into a crash that leaves her clinging to life in a coma, Nikki Swagger had begun to peel back the onion of a Southern Fried scandal.

Corrupt constabulary, meth lab crackers, and deranged evangelicals rear their ugly heads and when Swagger picks up where Nikki left off, his swift sword of justice is let loose. All of it is set against the backdrop of the excitement and insanity that only a weeklong NASCAR event can bring to the backwoods of a town as seemingly sleepy as Bristol, VA. A master at the top of his game, Hunter provides a host of riveting new reasons to read as fast as we can. Stephen Hunter is the best-selling author of The 47th Samurai, Havana, and Pale Horse Coming, among other titles.

Another great Bob Lee Swagger book!

Very nice follow up to The 47th Samuri. It is nice to see the family evolve and grow in age and in character. I've read every book in the series and this is another terrific one. In all fairness, there are a few leaps of logic and conclusiong that Bob Lee makes that were not as solidly supported by the facts the reader was aware of. Usually Mr. Hunter lays the clues and hints out a little more clearly to be plausible. My only complaint is that adverbs are butchered. No one drives "slow." They drive "slowly."

NASCAR and bullets

Another good story from the B.L. Swagger series. Evangelical criminals and NASCAR? Not the equivalent of the 47th Samurai but entertaining nonetheless. Are there enough bad guys Swagger can't find? Some way some how Swagger finds himself knee deep in bullets and mayhem. If you are a B.L. Swagger fan you will enjoy this story.

Night of Thunder

Reeling off the high from The 47th Samurai, I was expecting another blockbuster in this story. But it just didn't seem up to par. Maybe the racing environment or religious theme just didn't interest me.
