Publisher Description
The spine-tingling, bone-chilling novel of supernatural suspense from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Fireman and Horns—now an AMC original series starring Zachary Quinto, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Ashleigh Cummings.
"A masterwork of horror."— Time
Victoria McQueen has an uncanny knack for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. When she rides her bicycle over the rickety old covered bridge in the woods near her house, she always emerges in the places she needs to be.
Charles Talent Manx has a gift of his own. He likes to take children for rides in his 1938 Rolls-Royce Wraith with the vanity plate NOS4A2. In the Wraith, he and his innocent guests can slip out of the everyday world and onto hidden roads that lead to an astonishing playground of amusements he calls Christmasland. The journey across the highway of Charlie's twisted imagination transforms his precious passengers, leaving them as terrifying and unstoppable as their benefactor.
Then comes the day when Vic goes looking for trouble...and finds her way to Charlie. That was a lifetime ago. Now, the only kid ever to escape Charlie's evil is all grown up and desperate to forget. But Charlie Manx hasn't stopped thinking about Victoria McQueen. On the road again, he won't slow down until he's taken his revenge. He's after something very special—something Vic can never replace.
As a life-and-death battle of wills builds, Vic McQueen prepares to destroy Charlie once and for all—or die trying.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Joe Hill’s supernatural thriller raises a bumper crop of gooseflesh on its own, but this audio adaptation doubles down on the shivers. That’s thanks to an expert reading by Star Trek: Voyager actress Kate Mulgrew, whose husky, resonant voice is a perfect match for Hill’s characters, from gutsy Vic McQueen to the book’s sinister, sepulchral villain Charlie Manx. And Mulgrew’s no-nonsense narration keeps Hill’s complex, decades-spanning plot entirely clear. Stick around for a charming closing talk by Hill himself—he pays homage to both Mulgrew and the audiobook format while discussing the origins of his story.

More camp than scare and deliciously fun
I haven’t finished the book yet and never write reviews but I almost didn’t listen based on the reviews of the narrator and want to give my 2 cents. First, you can always preview a book and listen before purchasing if you don’t think it’s for you. Second, this book is fun and campy and the narrator does an amazing job!! I have loved being able to do all the Christmas magic for my household and listen to this book in December. It’s made it entertaining for me which says a lot when I’m doing dishes or wrapping presents at midnight by myself. I have been eager to get back to listening for over 12 hours and can’t wait to finish. I don’t want to give anything away so I will give my best comparison, as a middle aged woman who grew up in the 80’s and 90’s watching Tales From the Crypt this (totally unrelated novel) is giving me all the nostalgia and feels. I love it.
Gripping and intense
This was a very well done, twist and turn through the supernatural. Great story and awesome plot twists. It was worth every second and an amazing story, character development and gripping. I love the way it ended and makes me want more.

If you like this genre and the type of writings Joe Hill produces, you will love this audio book. Even better, Kate Mulgrew narrating it is a genius match. Enjoy!
