Publisher Description
When the body of a young, black Navy lieutenant is found chained inside the boiler of a mothballed battleship in a Philadelphia shipyard, there is no question that it's murder.
Stung by past scandals, the Navy moves to control the investigation by appointing one of their own, Commander Dan Collins, to take charge of it. Dan's deputy investigator will be civilian Grace Ellen Snow from the NIS (Naval Investigative Service), the organization that should have been in control of the investigation.
Dan and Grace make a connection between this murder, the death of the man's sister (also a Navy lieutenant), and a top Naval officer, only to have the chain-of-command curtain come down around their investigation. Convinced they can uncover those responsible for the murders, they secretly continue their investigation - a search that brings them to the attention of a cunning, remorseless, and relentless man.

Good Story/Horrible Narrator
this book tells a pretty good military crime story, and i'm a huge fan of deutermann's books, but j. charles is quite possibly the worst narrator i've ever heard in my life. he makes every character in the book sound like a member of the muppet show - i'm not joking. his voice is nasally and honky and extremely hard to listen to, and the voices he applies to each character are just goofy and unlistenable. i'm personally amazed that he is allowed to do this for work. i'm sorry to be so harsh but i had a hard time even finishing the audiobook. it was that bad. and it's too bad, because deutermann writes some good stories. i wish i could get my money back. oh yeah, i almost forgot, it also made my ipod crash a few times. i got it back up and running but not after a lot of restoring. if you want to hear a great narrator, get books read by dick hill. that guy is a master.
