Long ago, so the Storyteller claimed, the evil God Torak sought dominion and drove men and Gods to war. But Belgrath the Sorcerer led men to reclaim the Orb that protected the West. So long as it lay at Riva, the prophecy went, men would be safe. That was only a story, and Garion did not believe in magic dooms, even though the man without a shadow had haunted him for years. Brought up on a quiet farm by his Aunt Pol, how could he know that the Apostate planned to wake dread Torak, or that he would be led on a quest of unparalleled magic and danger by those he loved, but did not truly know.
For yet a little while and his dreams of innocence remained safe, untroubled by knowledge of his strange heritage. For a little while...thus begins The Belgariad, an epic fantasy of immense scope set against a history of 7000 years. It tells of the struggles between ancient Gods and mighty Kings, and of men in strange lands facing fated events, all bound by a prophecy that must be fulfilled.
This was the beginning of the best series I read when I was younger. I loved the characters and the storytelling is excellent!
Why can't they use separate actors for the different parts? Hearing this guy do aunt pol's voice is creepy.
My favorite series, almost a dissapointment.
Let me state first that I have read the entire Belgarion storyline multiple times. Each book, each series, and absolutley love them. I re-read them every year (along with the dark tower) to see old friends again. As such I was very excited to see the audible form on Itunes. Until I started listining. I obviously knew it wasn't going to sound like it did in my head, however I also did not expect the reader to be so distracting.
Not every R has to be rolled for the love of god, this is my one and biggest complaint. I thought at first he was just pronouncing the names differently which is fine. But then he said carrot and rolled his r's like he was trying to pretend to be spanish. I'm getting used to it but it is so distracting. If your knew to the series it might not bother you, I really don't know. But the series is amazing so if you don't read do yourself a favor and give this a listen. It might not bug you like it did me.
