Persuasion (Unabridged‪)‬

Luckily PBS was showing their version of this on Masterpiece Classics so I watched that first then was able to understand most of what was being said - or at least the gist of it. This was almost like a computerized reading - no breaks, no personality, no emotion etc to it. It also cut off the end of several chapters (last few words only) and had several areas where phrases were repeated. I would give the story 5 stars and the recording none.Definetly take the time to read or listen to this, but pick a more highly recommended recording over the cheap price of this one.

Peta Johnson is a wonderful narrator and delivers an impeccable and beautiful rendition of this wonderful novel. That if it weren't for the main character not to be one of Jane Austen's favorite I would give this audiobook 5 stars.

What I believe to be the problem here is Peta Johnson's accent. It is truly British, as the novel, which in my opinion matches it perfectly. Her rhythm is powerful and good paced (not too fast!!). Yes, she may speak faster than my friend from Memphis but no faster than my friends in NYC! The accent is however a little thick and if you are not accustomed to it I can see the difficulty. However, I highly recommend making the effort because Peta Johnson embraces this story magnificently and charges each character with its own voice.

This version is really unabridged and mine had no bugs (skipping, repeating etc).

I very highly recommend this audiobook.

I wish I had read the reviews before I bought it. I can't even listen to this. I have read the book several times so I understand what she is saying but there is nothing to this reading. It is way to fast. I wonder if I can return it.
