Pimsleur is the greatest!

I used phase 1 and 2 before going to Italy alone for 3 weeks. It was all I needed! I was able to speak and read Italian, including train schedules, with no problem at all. I'm reviewing them plus doing 3 and 4 in prep for MOVING there. Don't wait, get the programs and just get started. You can do it in the car, walking, at home lying down, on the treadmill...

è fantastico...

Of course, we would all agree that the best way to learn a foreign language is living in/or visiting the country. But for most of us this is an impossibility. I would certainly love to pack my bags tonight, and be on the next plane to Italy. Where I could completely submerge myself in the cultures of Rome, Venice, Tuscany, etc... But until that becomes my reality, I'm glad that I have this program to tide me over. The Pimsleur method is the best I've ever found for teaching me Italian, and I say with confidence that I'm learning and retaining the information very well. I feel that I've learned much already. Dr Pimsleur dedicated his life to the science of helping people learn foreign languages. And I'm personally grateful for his work.

Terrible excuse for an iTunes Audiobook

I'm a huge fan of Pimsleur language courses. This review is not a criticism of the excellent source material. This is a complaint about selling this course as an Audiobook. The great thing about Pimsleur on CDs is they're indexed...you can easily find the lesson you want to do, pop the CD in and go. But with this iTunes, version, what you get is a single 2 hour 36 minute continuous audio file with no chapter markers…not even an index anywhere saying where the individual lessons start. Talk about inconvenient and a total waste of technological possibilities. I say don't buy this sorry excuse for an Audiobook…buy the Pimsleur CDs and have an enjoyable learning experience.
