Poor Liza and Martha the Mayoress

This book contains the stories "Poor Liza" and "Martha the Mayoress, or The Subjugation of Novagorod" by the great Russian historian, writer, and poet Nikolai Karamzin (1766-1826). These tales, which introduced Russian audiences to sentimentalism, were so popular when they were first published that they inspired people to make pilgrimages to some of the places the stories are set in.
