Publisher Description

In Christopher Moore's ingenious debut novel, we meet one of the most memorably mismatched pairs in the annals of literature. The good-looking one is one-hundred-year-old ex-seminarian and ""roads"" scholar Travis O'Hearn. The green one is Catch, a demon with a nasty habit of eating most of the people he meets. Behind the fake Tudor facade of Pine Cove, California, Catch sees a four-star buffet. Travis, on the other hand, thinks he sees a way of ridding himself of his toothy traveling companion. The winos, neo-pagans, and deadbeat Lotharios of Pine Cove, meanwhile, have other ideas. And none of them is quite prepared when all hell breaks loose.

Christopher Moore is a Hidden Gem

Practical Demon Keeping was so unexpected. This is the first book by Christopher Moore I’ve ever read, and I cant say I’m upset with the outcome in the slightest. Hold on to your seats in the beginning—you’re not going to be expecting the narrators voice for Catch (the demon).
Watching a comedy movie or going to see a comedian live is a simple way to get a big chuckle from the mundane human experience. Very rarely do I laugh at a podcast let alone an audiobook. Most of the time I’ll snicker because an author was clever, but Christopher Moore is actually funny you guys. You instantly get a sense of his humor at the start with The Breeze and Billy. Within 10 minutes of the audiobook something climactic happens. I love when novels are a vacuum like that, pulling me in from the very beginning. This is one of those books you read and afterwards you know it will be awhile before you find another one that good. When it’s an actual challenge to become interested in another novel you know you’ve found an exceptional read.
You’re really going to love the demons witty remarks throughout the book. His demon keeper, even better. Augustus Brine will blow your mind and the genie will have you asking yourself if you have a “small quantity of salt” hiding in a cabinet somewhere. Moore writes these characters into existence. I really feel like I personally met every person in Pine Cove. Of course, I wont spoil anything else. Trust me guys, this audiobook was seriously amazing.
