Pride and Prejudice
Publisher Description
English actress Kate Beckinsale is the perfect reader for Jane Austen’s brilliant satire-slash-love story.
Very few novels inspire the kind of fanatical devotion that Jane Austen’s Regency-era classic does. Pride and Prejudice follows the inimitable Elizabeth Bennet and her sisters, who are expected to behave in just-so, socially acceptable ways…but that’s not really in the cards. Pride and Prejudice is a witty satire, a family melodrama, and, above all, one of the greatest—and most imitated—love stories in Western literature.
There was no such thing as an audiobook when Jane Austen first published Pride and Prejudice in 1813, but we know that Austen liked to test her novels by reading them out loud to her family. Actress Kate Beckinsale narrates this Apple Books exclusive audiobook of the beloved English novel, which is perfect considering Beckinsale portrayed another Austen heroine in a 1996 movie adaptation of Emma.

Wonderful audiobook!
Although I must admit that the sample Apple Books gives can be a bit grating, it should be acknowledged that the first portion of the book that was sampled is mostly of dialogue between Mr. & Mrs. Bennet. Kate Beckinsale’s character voices for both seem to be just as annoying as their characters are meant to be, especially Mrs. Bennet. So, I think it’s worth giving it a try! It’s free!
That said, my overall review of Ms. Beckinsale’s reading is that she did a wonderful job! I thoroughly enjoyed it & even got carried away in listening to her tell the story that’s all too familiar to me. The only thing I wasn’t as keen on was her reading of Mr. Darcy. She did a good job of giving him a grave, cold, distant voice, but there were times (especially in the final chapters) when it seemed unnatural for him to still speak in such a grave tone. Other than that, I loved it! I no doubt will listen to it again in the future.
It’s okay
I liked the narrator the voice really brought it to life but it would just kill the mood ALL OF THE TIME I would not recommend I was very disappointed…
