Can a pig pretend to be a boy? Sure—and be pretty convincing at it, too—if he’s a pig about to be barbecued. “I shall have to change my identity completely,” Farmer Quigley’s pig decides when he overhears Quigley discussing plans that involve a grill. “This is the time for action.”

At the near side of the garden is a clothesline and on it a pair of pants and a painter’s hat. There is a blue bandanna, so the pig knots that around his neck. There he was—dressed! “Now I am man,” Mr. Quigley’s pig says aloud. But when he starts off, he promptly trips on his shirt.
