This audiobook opens and ends with music from Gary Numan's 2021 album Intruder

A Daily Mail 'best TV and showbiz memoir' for 2020

From humble beginnings in Middlesex, where money was scarce but dreams were encouraged, to the award-winning godfather of electronica, Gary Numan has seen it all. His incredible story can be charted in two distinct parts . . .

The first: a stratospheric rise to success quickly followed by a painful decline into near obscurity. At school, Gary fell through the cracks of the system and was expelled. An unlikely but determined popstar, he earned his first record deal aged nineteen and, two years later, had released four bestselling albums and had twice toured the world. But, aged just twenty-five, it felt like it was all over. Gary's early success began to hold him back and he battled to reconcile the transient nature of fame with his Asperger's syndrome.

The second: a twenty-plus year renaissance catalysed by a date with a super-fan. Gary catalogues his fifteen-year struggle with crippling debts, his slow, obstacle-laden journey back to the top (and the insecurity that comes with that) and why Savage reaching #2 in 2017 meant more than the heady heights of 1979. Gary also candidly discusses the importance of his fans; why having Asperger's is a gift at times; the inspiration behind the lyrics; flying around the world in 1981; IVF struggles and the joy of fatherhood and his battle with depression and anxiety.

(R)evolution is the rollercoaster rise and fall (and rise) of one man, several dozen synthesisers, multiple issues and two desperately different lives. By turns hilarious and deeply moving, this is Gary Numan in his own words - a brutally honest reflection on the man behind the music.

Very Important Numanoid

I’m a longtime fan who appreciates this opportunity to hear Gary himself go through his life. His honesty is clear. I had purchased the book through Gary’s website, but I couldn’t pass up the chance to hear the man himself speak about his life. I couldn’t imagine a better way to experience this book.
I’ve had the pleasure to meet Gary in one of his meet and greets this year in Sacramento. He was smiling, friendly and just wonderful to all us fans.
Highly recommend this book to his fans and anyone interested in someone who is held in high regard by his peers!

First ever review (fixed)

Gary, You’re audiobook is awesome! We relate in so many ways. We both have Autism. Only difference is that you have Aspergers, and I have ADHD. We both like music. For you, it helps you to socialize with others, because you’re shy, but it’s not a bad thing. Lots of people are shy sometimes, and I think being shy is just a special gift. I am very easy to socialize with, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have a shy side. You are very inspirational, and you inspire me to, sing of course! I am a good singer myself, but I still think I need singing lessons. I sing whenever I listen to any of your songs, from Intruder, to The End of Dragons, to other songs. You are an amazing author, singer, and most of all, you are an amazing inspiration to all of your fans. I somewhat sing to your songs because it is, to me, the first step to being a great singer just like you when I’m older. And so that I can practice, and find out things like how high my voice can go, and how long I can extend my voice before stopping to catch my breath. I do feel like you’re watching me on some of your album covers. Especially Exile. I feel like you’re spying on me on that album cover! It’s actually very stressful. Why I feel like you’re watching me on that album cover, I have no clue.

I found out about your music in 2017, the year you made Savage (songs from a broken world). And I became very obsessed with you then I completely forgot about your music. Then, one morning, my mother said "Mackenzie, Gary Numan’s making a new album" and that started it all over again. A few days later, after dinner, mom found the music video for Intruder, and I stopped and immediately ran to the dining room, looked at mom’s phone, and watched it. To be honest, I wasn’t a big fan of the music video, but I liked the song. It was stuck in my head for the rest of the night. 😂 then, after me and mom showed my sister the music video, she said "I can see why you didn’t care for the music video, because of the glitch effect." Then, mom saw the single for I Am Screaming, we listened to it. And again, stuck in my head. 😅 Then the sample for Saints And Liars, sucked in my head again. Then when mom found Now and Forever, we had Apple Music, where you can download music for free for 3 months, then about sixteen dollars a month. Worth it though, mainly because I was able to download the 4 songs. Then, on Saturday May 22, I was excited for the release the next day, but mom said "He released it yesterday." And I literally ran to my IPad, turned it on, forced mom to do my time limit for music, and rushed to my headphones, then to my room, downloaded the rest of the album, and that was that. Obsession returned. Had The End of Dragons stuck in my head. Love that song…

Anyways, sorry for the long review, I was just excited. Keep on inspiring your fans, and me, (a 10 year old girl who is obsessed with you 😓) and I’ll be waiting for the second Intruder album. Keep on your inspirational music, it means a lot to me.

Your #1 fan, Mackenzie 💗
P.S: I wish you could give me singing lessons! 😂
