The Creation of Rainbow's End

In 1972 I got an idea for what I thought would be an interesting start to a novel. I guess I wasn't very motivated at that time because all I got written was the first eleven pages describing the crash of an Air Force KC-135 tanker at an air force base.

In 1984 I had a three month period of time on my hands, so I started writing the rest of my story, which was an espionage adventure in which the main character, Morocco Stone, is recruited by the CIA for a special mission to uncover Russia's plans for putting missiles on Cuba. The mission fails, and years later he is again solicited to aid in what turns out to be a continuation of what the original mission was really all about. Years later Morocco is still haunted by the loss of his contact, Krassy, during the mission, so he goes on his own mission to find answers, and ultimately finds real life at his own Rainbow's End.

I didn't even come up with the title until after I had edited it for the fifth time, and then 'Rainbow's End' seemed to fit quite aptly with how the novel ended, and also with where I lived in the Sierra Nevada Range in California.
