LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

See the Alpha Legion in the wake of the Great Rift, as they face the power of the Primaris Space Marines of the Indomitus Crusade.

THE STORY

The Alpha Legion are devious beyond measure, but deceit is a double-edged sword. As the Indomitus Crusade pushes into the far reaches of the Ultima Segmentum, the warband known as the Serpent's Teeth encounter the fearsome Primaris Marines, and the Alpha Legion is faced with a choice – fade into the shadows, or adapt and strike back.

Solomon Akurra, leader of the Teeth, intends to claim the title of Harrowmaster and bind together the feuding heads of the hydra that make up his Legion. His allies are disparate and unproven, and his enemies march with the might of the Imperium at their back. Much is not as it seems, and the odds are stacked against the sons of Alpharius… but Solomon is armed with a weapon the Imperium cannot ignore – the truth.

Amazing look into alpha legion

Another banger by Brooks, this book shows just how diverse and unique the alpha legion are, both from other legions, and between their own warbands. It shows their cunning and adaptability but not at the expense of making the imperials seem incompetent or stupid. It also does a great job of showing the challenges represented by the new primaris marines, or at least it tries to which is more than can be said of most primaris books. Yea, there are a number of “just as a planned” moments but I mean… it’s alpha legion, what did you expect?

The one main gripe I have is that the narrator, while good, doesn’t fit this story’s characters well. None of the space marines really sound like space marines and at times he has them sound actually afraid or nervous, like kids being confronted by parents.

But over all, an amazing book that I cannot recommend enough.

Sad attempt, next time try harder.

A book chock full of “just as planned” and “dues ex mechina”.

If you enjoy epic moments like a space hulk outmaneuvering a fleet of ships (never mind the things are only slightly more maneuverable then a moon) and large titan sized demon engines popping up under a titan out of literally nowhere that the book doesn’t even try to explain, then you might enjoy this book.

Otherwise stay away, the writing is quite childish
