Publisher Description

My husband hates me. But he’s also the only man who can save me.

Taken by a stranger, Santiago is my only hope. Except that I don’t know if he’s dead or alive. And for as cruel as he can be, the thought he might be gone is unbearable.

But he has nine lives, my monster.

He’s not finished with me yet. And soon I’m back at The Manor. Locked in my room. At his mercy.

I know I am despised. I know I have become the face of his vengeance.

But there’s something else, too. Something between us. It’s a dark and gnarled thing. And it has its claws around my heart.

‘I don't know how to comfort her. I've never learned.’

This story continues the back and forth relationship of Santi and Ivy. We start to get more answers as the story unfolds, so it moves faster than the first book.
There are some steamy scenes as Ivy and Santi can’t control their physical connection.

I don’t love Ivy’s character. Being held in Judge’s cellar should have showed her how bad it could be but she still continues to push at Santiago. Yes, he’s tough to deal with but the whole situation with the sheet fire could have been avoided. I mean, he did go out on a limb for her with The Tribunal, even while thinking she tried to unalive him.

I will finish the 3rd book to get closure and hope I grow to like her more.

I Really Tried

As a grown woman, this was cringy to listen to. Ivy kept doing dumb stuff expecting different results. Outside of being forced into marriage, she’s a victim in her own mind, immature, and anything she does she complicates it then blames Santiago, even when she tries.
I tried to immerse myself in the story, place myself in a 20-something year old’s perspective, understand this is the route the author chose for this particular character, although her actions didn’t agree with my thought process.

People do dumb stuff when they are scared, but Ivy was doing things strong n’ wrong with boldness, then turning back into the victim when she was got the reaction she was looking for.

Then Santiago…. He’s still a hurt little boy. Understandable. Every time she did something to piss him off, he’d have sex with her.

Too emotionally manipulative and drawn out for my analytical mind. Maybe I was looking for Santiago and Ivy to set aside their differences… put the entire truth out there, and fight the real problem faster.
