Publisher Description
Rilla of Ingleside (1921) is the eighth of nine books in the Anne of Green Gables series by Lucy Maud Montgomery, but was the sixth "Anne" novel in publication order. This book draws the focus back onto a single character, Anne and Gilbert's youngest daughter Bertha Marilla "Rilla" Blythe. It has a more serious tone, as it takes place during World War I and the three Blythe boys—Jem, Walter, and Shirley—along with Rilla's sweetheart Ken Ford, and playmates Jerry Meredith and Carl Meredith—end up fighting in Europe with the Canadian Expeditionary Force.
Customer Reviews
Readers who can't pronounce words
The book is of course good but the reader changes every two chapters or so and a lot of the readers don't know how to pronounce a lot of basic words. Also readers putting on southern accents for Canadian characters. Did they read the book or know anything about it?
Too many narrators
I grew up with the series and have always enjoyed rereading the books. But this particular audiobook had so many different narrators. I lost count after 10. It was quite distracting to have so many different voices in it.
Doesn’t mention multiple narrators in description
I’m pretty sure this is a version that is free elsewhere but sold here as if its professionally done, which is why I bought it. I thought I was getting a better version than the free one I previously listened to. While you still get to hear the story, which is kind of the point, it’s disappointing that it’s being sold without mentioning how poor the quality is.
