Publisher Description

From the internationally bestselling author of The Simple Wild comes the story of a woman at a crossroads in her life, struggling between the safe route and the one that will only lead to more heartbreak.
Veterinarian Marie Lehr knows unrequited love all too well after pining for her best friend, only to watch him marry another woman. It's a mistake she will never make again, especially not when she can practically hear the clock ticking on her childbearing years.
The trouble is, she can't seem to find anyone who appeals to her even a fraction as much as that burly bush pilot did. Competitive musher Tyler Brady certainly doesn't, especially not after the heated altercation with the handsome but arrogant, spiteful man.
Or so she thinks.
While volunteering at the Iditarod Sled Dog Race, Marie discovers that first impressions may have been false, and her attraction to Tyler is very real. But his heart belongs to someone else, leaving him with nothing to offer but friendship. Marie's been down this road before and knows how that ends. Yet, no matter how hard she works to keep from falling for Tyler, it seems she's doomed to follow her own trail once again.

Audiobook review: narrated by Callie Dalton

4 stars for story
5 stars for performance

This is not my first K.A. Tucker book, but it is the first of this series that I've read. While it was obvious that I missed a lot in regards to Jonah and Calle's story, I didn't feel that anything was vital to this story and it can truly be read as a stand-alone. I am glad in a way because I get to meet Marie as the main character in her own story and I really did like her a lot. Even though she is very close to her family, going so far as to be living in a small cabin on their property, she never comes across as dependent. She is quite the opposite and is very strong in her convictions when it comes to her professional life. So much so that her first meeting with Tyler does not go well as she jumps in feet first to protect an animal she felt was being abused on his land.

Tyler is a great character with a tragic backstory. His actions...and reactions...feel extremely realistic and the battle he is facing with whether to move on with his life makes this an emotional read at times. I do wish the book was written in dual POV so we could really dive into his thought process. Since this was from Marie's viewpoint only, I did find myself hoping, probably for the first time, that we wouldn't get a traditional HEA. The push pull was just a little much at times. The little nuances that bothered me in the story were not nearly enough to turn me off though. Overall it was a great book and I do plan on going back to read the first two books in the series.

I'm sure I've said this before, but Callie Dalton is the go-to for me when it comes to single narration. Not that I'd turn down anything she narrates, but if there is only one narrator and it's her I'm jumping for it. Her male inflections are so well done that I forget I'm listening to one person. She is such a talented voice actor and it makes it easy to get lost in the story. I always close her books satisfied.

Finding happily ever after

This was a nice addition to the series. You don’t have to necessarily read the previous books to understand what is going on as this is a complete stand alone, but it does help you get a full picture of everything. Marie is getting over the heartache of being in love with her best friend. She is a 38 year old veterinarian who has taken over her dad’s practice. Tyler is a widower, Iditarod from Finland. She is going to be sled team vet for his dogs. After time sparks fly. This was a great book and having the audio for this was the best. The narrator did an excellent job telling the story like you were a part of the story itself.

I received this audio through the publisher and I am voluntarily reviewing this book, opinions are my own.

Loved their story!

Book 3 in the Wild series was a really good enemies to lovers story!

I loved Marie & Tyler as individual characters, and together as a couple. The angst, the explosive chemistry and sexual tension had me drawn in until the end. I was so glad that Tyler was able to overcome his heartache to find love again.

Callie Dalton did a really good job narrating for both the female and male characters.
