Publisher Description

The sensational true story behind the major TV drama series, The Trial of Christine Keeler, performed by Sophie Cookson

In her own words, the life of the beautiful young model and dancer who helped to bring down the Tory government of Harold Macmillan - the 'Profumo Affair' remains the greatest political sex scandal in recent British history.

Having found fame and success as a model, Christine's short affair with the minister for war, John Profumo, led to his downfall at the end of Harold Macmillan's Conservative government, and was at the heart of the social and political earthquake that followed. She became the subject of scandal, intrigue and gossip and was tried for perjury and briefly jailed following the death of Stephen Ward, the socialite who had introduced her to Profumo.

Following Christine Keeler's death in December 2017, her book has been updated to include revelations that she did not wish to be published in her lifetime. The result is an audiobook containing material that has never been officially released, which really does lift the lid on just how far the Establishment will go to protect its own.

Sophie Cookson, actress/narrator.

I love listening to Sophie Cookson doing the narration of this book. Her voice is amazing with real story telling that draws you in and takes you inside the story. I love the small subtle changes she makes in her voice that the story requires at certain times. Sophie Cookson is so far ahead of her time as an actress. She gives every performance 150 percent!!! I can only hope to see her in many more movies to come! She is so artistic, smart, knows how to give the full range of the characters she plays and she is flawless in every way!!! I love her!

Interesting Story, Sophie Cookson nails the narration

The story is interesting and often tragic. Ms. Keeler's life seemed to be riddled with bad circumstances and equally bad choices. As many have said before, in today’s world of "Me Too" this story would play out much differently, but it is representative of the times in which it took place.
Sophie Cookson narrates the book and it appears to be the only book she has taken on, but I certainly hope it is not the last. Her voice is perfect for audio books and her voice acting is stellar. Exceptionally smooth cadence, with subtle but effective changes in inflection and emotion as required by the text. Even if you don't end up liking the story you will keep listening just to hear the narration.
