Publisher Description

The year is 1929, and newlyweds George and Serena Pemberton arrive in the North Carolina mountains to create a timber empire, vowing to let no one stand in their way, especially those newly rallying around Teddy Roosevelt's nascent environmental movement.

Yet when Serena begins to suspect that George's allegiances may lie elsewhere, she unleashes her full fury on the young mountain woman who bore his illegitimate child the year before. Rash's masterful balance of violence and beauty yields a powerfully riveting story that, at its core, tells of love both honored and betrayed.

Longstreet's Love ,

Serena

This is a fascinating book full of beautiful descriptions of the NC mountains which I enjoyed because I grew up there. Also the events of the story were accurately researched and true to the time and place of the story. However, this heroine is a piece of work! I wish there had been some qualities about her which were redeemable but there were none. her terrible deeds finally depressed me. Of course I finished the novel but was really sad when I did.

Not worth $20

Bad narration.
I had to read this book for class and because I'll need to remember the book in more detail rather than if I were reading it for pleasure I needed to listen to it as well as read it. I remember the book better by listening and reading along, so I got this audiobook.
Multiple times the narrator misspoke. Said the wrong thing or mispronounced a word. He even changed words altogether. Not to mention he made half the characters sound like they have a mental disability. This is not worth $20.
I get that these are southern people. I'm from the south. But his voice for the women in this narration makes them sound like they are mentally disabled. If a character is written that way, that's one thing. But not every female character should sound like that. Especially if that's not his a character is written.
Should have Checked out YouTube for the audio file. I wouldn't bother me then if I didn't pay for it.
