The #1 New York Times–bestselling sequel to A Discovery of Witches, book two of the All Souls Trilogy—“as enchanting, engrossing, and impossible to put down as its predecessor” (Miami Herald).
Look for the hit TV series “A Discovery of Witches” airing Sundays on AMC and BBC America, and streaming on Sundance Now and Shudder.
J. K. Rowling, Stephenie Meyer, Anne Rice—only a few writers capture the imagination the way that Deborah Harkness has with her New York Times–bestselling All Souls trilogy. A Discovery of Witches introduces reluctant witch Diana Bishop, vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont, and the battle for a lost, enchanted manuscript known as Ashmole 782.
Picking up from A Discovery of Witches’ cliffhanger ending, Shadow of Night takes Diana and Matthew on a trip through time to Elizabethan London, where they are plunged into a world of spies, magic, and a coterie of Matthew’s old friends, the School of Night. As the search for Ashmole 782 deepens and Diana seeks out a witch to tutor her in magic, the net of Matthew’s past tightens around them, and they embark on a very different—and vastly more dangerous—journey.

shadow of night
The narrator is amazing, she gave so much life to this book. Thank you Deborah Harkness. I want more!
Book 2 is just as brilliantly written as with the 1st book. Jennifer Ikeda is a fantastic narrator that brings the book to live with her voice and reading style. Shadow of Night is such a delight to read as it was written with adults in mind with a great grasp and understanding of history and the complexities of Elizabethan England but its still keeps its fantasy/fiction roots. This book is such a breath of fresh air in a genre that mostly caters to teenage girls. Well done to Deborah Harkness!!!
AN AMAZING JOURNEY / Incredible Narrator !
Brava Deborah Harkness! A year ago I found "A Discovery of Witches " was an unexpected surprise; the anticipation of "Shadow of the Night" generated high expectations; Ms Harkness has truly exceed any expectations by delivering her readers into a world of adventure, romance, magic and history. A combination that is rarely successful, until a historian and author does it.
Ms. Harkness pulls her readers into a magical past, tours historic europe, Fact, fiction and fantasy blended with amazingly detailed characters with depth and truth. Shadow of the night full draws the reader in with every page and leaves readers wanting more! I would assume we are looking at the next big Hollywood franchise. Let's keep our fingers crossed ! It would be nice to see a big screen adaption that doesn't revolve around a 16 year old girl !
