When does the second one come out?
Great audiobook. Can’t wait for the second one.
Unbelievably bad
Story:
The story reads more like a children’s novel than a serious espionage thriller. It lacks direction, depth, and coherence. Characters rarely act with purpose; instead, they stumble through events, often running away from problems or abandoning plans before they even begin. The protagonist is particularly disappointing—he blunders his way in and out of trouble, contributing little beyond a handful of minor actions. Even those few moments feel unearned, as though he is actively trying to fail.
Pacing:
The pacing is equally problematic. Entire pages are wasted on irrelevant details, while actual moments of action are stripped down to a few sanitized lines. This imbalance makes the narrative drag where it should build tension and rush where it should linger.
Action:
For a book centered on espionage and combat, the action is almost nonexistent. When conflict does occur, the protagonist is typically sidelined, leaving secondary characters—who themselves lack meaningful development—to carry the load. As a result, the action feels hollow, uninteresting, and devoid of emotional weight.
Style:
Stylistically, the book reads like a watered-down imitation of Jack Carr’s The Terminal List. It touches on similar themes but without the intensity, descriptive richness, or intelligence that make Carr’s work compelling. The prose feels sanitized and shallow, missing the grit and atmosphere the genre demands.
Overall:
While the book begins with a glimmer of promise, any potential quickly fades. Plot holes, nonsensical dialogue, and underdeveloped characters pile up as the chapters progress. Ultimately, it feels less like a finished novel and more like the rough draft of a better story that was never written.
