Advance praise for Something in the Water
“With unreliable characters, wry voices, exquisite pacing, and a twisting plot, [Catherine] Steadman potently draws upon her acting chops. . . . A darkly glittering gem of a thriller from a new writer to watch.”—Kirkus Reviews (starred review)
“Captivating . . . daring . . . The threats and increasingly bad decisions accelerate with Bourne-like velocity. . . . Steadman [is] a newcomer worth watching.”—Publishers Weekly
“An unbearably tense debut with a knockout premise, Something in the Water had me hooked from the very first sentence. Thrilling and thought-provoking, it’s the perfect beach read. I devoured it!”—Riley Sager, bestselling author of Final Girls
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Who better to read Catherine Steadman's unsettling thriller than Steadman herself? If you don’t know her by name, she played independent-minded Mabel Lane Fox on Downton Abbey. The actress’ precise delivery highlights the dark deeds and moral compromises of her story, about newlyweds who make a very bad decision on their tropical honeymoon and spiral into a web of deceit. From the anxious heroine, Erin, to a scurrilous London gangster, Steadman gives each character a distinct voice, drawing us into the twists and turns of this murder story. She’s a double threat—a gifted reader and author. P.S.: Reese Witherspoon picked Something in the Water for her book club.
Customer Reviews
Amazing
Loved this book so sad it’s over!!!
Irritating
Should have listened to the reviews. It was hard to get through this book due to the idiotic critical thinking skills given to the main character Erin. Many more ways to keep the storyline going other than giving her almost laughably pathetic decision making abilities.
Slow moving
I found this to be a very slow moving story to the point I didn’t finish it. Personally, what I’ve heard so far is not worth wanting to continue listening to see what happens to these characters. The narrator is wonderful to listen to, I enjoyed that.
