Starting From Scratch

I have a love/hate relationship with audiobooks. The first wlw audiobook I listened to was a book I had already read and the narrator just didn’t sound like the characters that I had created in my mind while first reading it. In fact, they changed their personalities completely in the way they read the dialogue. After some debate I decided to try another, making sure it was a different narrator and it made a big difference. It was still a bit different, but the characters weren’t SO different and I actually liked it.

This audiobook was the best, so far. First of all, it is narrated by the author. I’m a big Georgia Beers fan. Who would know better how to interpret what they wrote? Who would know better the personalities and how each character sounds? Plus, I did not read this book, myself, first.

As for the story, itself? A young introverted woman whose psyche has been somewhat damaged by abandonment by her mom & raised by her grandmother finds herself dating her bank manager crush after a friend puts her profile on a lesbian dating site without her knowledge. It seems like everything is just falling into place until it doesn’t.
The story has everything. Humor, sadness, steamy scenes, friendships, and a look into different types of relationships (even heterosexual ones), as well as animals and kids. I truly enjoyed the story overall, and was so captivated by the story I didn’t want to do anything but listen. I would definitely recommend it. At times I chuckled out loud and other times felt like I could cry. I may even download the ebook at some point just to have it on hand as I liked the story that much.~castaway
