Publisher Description
Briar and Rosethorn are in ancient Chammur, where Briar gets involved in a war between street gangs at that same time as he ends up trying to train a young stone mage that he has discovered.
Intrigue, adventure, humor, nastiness, all set against a fascinating culture, this is classic Tamora Pierce.

Superior - Disappointed that the rest of the series isn't provided
I love these books, the story, the characters, the narration - brings you closer to the characters you've grown to love in the previous series "The Circle of Magic". Briar and Evvy make for wonderful and stubborn protagonists, with street-taught grit, and a love for what their magic is rooted in - plants and stones respectively. A glimpse into the troubles of street life, alivened by the additional struggle of discovering you're a mage, and with the burden of dealing with a gang with a wealthy and corrupt sponsor - a truly engaging tale.
My only disappointment: that the other three books of this series are not available on iTunes as audiobooks: Magic Steps, Cold Fire, and Shatterglass. I greatly look forward to the day that these additions are provided.
Great book, but ...
I love this series and this book, but I am missing the last twenty-five minutes of the book, when Briar is about to save Evvy. Because of this, I give it a one star rating.
Sooo Good!
This book is amazing. If you like any of Tamora Pierce's other sieries, you should definitely read this one.
