Now the subject of the Lifetime original movie An Amish Murder
A killer is preying on sacred ground....
In the sleepy rural town of Painters Mill, Ohio, the Amish and "English" residents have lived side by side for two centuries. But sixteen years ago, a series of brutal murders shattered the peaceful farming community. In the aftermath of the violence, the town was left with a sense of fragility, a loss of innocence. Kate Burkholder, a young Amish girl, survived the terror of the Slaughterhouse Killer but came away from its brutality with the realization that she no longer belonged with the Amish.
Now, a wealth of experience later, Kate has been asked to return to Painters Mill as Chief of Police. Her Amish roots and big city law enforcement background make her the perfect candidate. She's certain she's come to terms with her past—until the first body is discovered in a snowy field. Kate vows to stop the killer before he strikes again. But to do so, she must betray both her family and her Amish past—and expose a dark secret that could destroy her.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Linda Castillo’s tense mystery Sworn to Silence introduces the flawed but compelling Kate Burkholder, who grew up in an Ohio Amish community before she left to become a cop. Now, as her hometown’s police chief, a series of brutal murders forces her to revisit a troubling secret from her teenage years alongside rough-edged state detective John Tomasetti. How the two officers deal with their traumatic pasts is as fascinating as the case they’re on. Audie-winning actress Kathleen McInerney’s narration shines, especially when she’s reading Burkholder and Tomasetti’s dialogue, which believably moves from wary to intimate as they zero in on the killer.

Not bad, but I won't waste my time on any other books by this author. It's almost like she was trying too hard, but still ended up missing the mark. I wasn't able to connect with, or even get a realistic feel for any of the characters. Most of the book was from the perspective of the main character with only one short section from the killer. Not a lot of excitement, very predictable, and a lot of wanna be gory details.
SWORN TO SILENCE
I enjoyed this book. It was very descriptive of the violence, if this bothers some people they should stay away from this book. If however you enjoy a good book that will hold your interest this is the one. I decided to write a review on my way back to buy her other book.
All I can say is this is worth the money....The characters are complex and make this novel a wonderful read (or listen, as I did.) The narrator was REALLY good!! The killer in this novel is a disturbed man and truly makes this story. Very detailed descriptions in all the thrilling parts. I don't want to say too much because I don't want to ruin it. Sweet Dreams...
