Adventure of English
The Adventure of English is an interesting and informative read. Melvyn Bragg traces an exceptionally thorough history of the development of the English language, covering the glamorous as well as the infamous travels of English. Robert Powell narrates well through the book. My only complaint, and it's a minor one, is his reading of some lines from Huck Finn, in the chapter about American English. Powell does not render the Southern accent well.
Overall, this is an excellent read!
