The Bet

The short story by Anton Chekhov published in 1889 tell the story of a bet between a banker and a young lawyer on whether a death sentence or a life in prison is better. At the end of the bet trying to measure the value of human life, the banker shall give two million rubles to the young lawyer if he lasts in prison for 15 years.
