A stoner, an Instagram model, a Czech oligarch, and a missing unicorn. Nick Fox and Kate O'Hare have their work cut out for them in their weirdest, wildest adventure yet in this New York Times bestseller by Janet and Peter Evanovich.

Straight arrow FBI Agent Kate O'Hare always plays by the rules.  Charming Con Man Nicholas Fox makes them up as he goes along.  She thinks he's nothing but a scoundrel.  He thinks she just needs to lighten up.  They're working together to tackle the out-of-bounds cases ordinary FBI agents can't touch.  And, their relationship?  Well, there hasn't been so much explosive chemistry since Nitro was introduced to Glycerin.

Next on the docket: The mysterious disappearance of the Silicon Valley billionaire, known as the Big Kahuna.  Kate's been assigned to find him but no one seems particularly keen on helping.  His twenty-six year old adult actress wife-turned Instagram model wife and his shady Czech business partner are more interested in gaining control of his company.  For that they need a dead body not a living Kahuna.

The only lead they have is the Kahuna's drop-out son, who's living the dream in Hawaii - if your dream is starting your day with the perfect wave and ending it with a big bowl of weed.  To get close to the Kahuna's son, Kate and Nick go undercover as a married couple in the big wave, bohemian, surfer community of Paia, Maui.  Living a laid back, hippy-dippy lifestyle isn't exactly in Kate's wheelhouse, but the only thing more horrifying is setting up house with Nick Fox, even if he does look pretty gnarly on a longboard.  If they don't catch a break soon, waves aren't the only thing she's going to be shredding (or bedding).

Have they even read the previous books?

I have loved this series from the beginning- cool locations, neat premise, a fun cast of characters. This book, sadly, does not deliver.

1. Over the course of previous books we have seen development and growth of the relationship between Kate and Nick. This book seems to forget the progress they’ve made and goes back to almost square one. She doesn’t love to hate him, but she is back to being a reluctant “romantic” dimwit.
2. Much fun from the previous books is based around the outrageous and motley cast of characters- Boyd, Wilma, Joe, Jake, Chet, etc. In this book Jake comes along for the ride with Cosmo and we are introduced to a new band of motley fools. Each one more annoying than the last.
3. Kate is a former Navy Seal. Strong swimmer, killer instincts, lives for the job. Why is a con man out-swimming, out climbing, out-parachuting, and otherwise outshining her? Just ridiculous.

In my opinion skip it and cross your fingers that the next one has Lee Goldberg back on the team of writers. It was a real disappointment.

What In the World Happened???

If you know this series well and love it, you are also most likely asking yourself, “What In the World Happened To This Series I Love!” This book is not a good continuation of the series.
There are so many things wrong with this book I could write pages, but I will only give some highlights.
Kate O’Hare is a tough, cute sexy, ex-Navy Seal, awesome FBI argent. She is not the type of woman that goes around with corky sayings, constantly hitting nick on the arm, and not knowing how to solve problems.
Nick Fox is a suave, devilishly handsome, greatest con man, with an exquisite palate for expensive things. He is not a goofy, just cute, comedian type of guy.
Nick and Kate have had a romantic relationship for awhile. This is not new, like this book seems to reveal. Ever since the 4th book ,”The Scam”, Nick and Kate have been intimate. Nick makes claims that Kate is everything to him. Kate makes claims she can’t live with out Nick. They are enamored with each other and in book 5, “The Pursuit”, they both suggest that they are right for each other. This type of feeling is totally missing in the new book.
Jake O’Hare does love to blow things up, but that is not his goal. His goal safety for Kate and his country, and sometimes Nick.
This series needs to get the old team back, Kate’s family back, and leave Cosmo Uno in his cubicle.

Excellent story and the narrator/narration was also excellent. The Janet Evanovich and Scott Brick made a great combination.
