The thrilling conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Lone City trilogy, which began with The Jewel, a book BCCB said ""will have fans of Oliver's Delirium, Cass's The Selection, and DeStefano's Wither breathless.""

For too long, Violet and the people of the outer circles of the Lone City have lived in service of the royalty of the Jewel. But now, the secret society known as the Black Key is preparing to seize power.

While Violet knows she is at the center of this rebellion, she has a more personal stake in it—for her sister, Hazel, has been taken by the Duchess of the Lake. Now, after fighting so hard to escape the Jewel, Violet must do everything in her power to return not only to save Hazel, but the future of the Lone City.

Interesting story line and plot but lacking end goal

This main character is so fustrating to follow. Its easy to gain sympathy for her situation as a slave basically but somethings dont add up. In the first book when she sees a pregant surrogant she thinks “I have no idea what its like to be pregnant” isnt that what you were in the holding facility to learn? No wonder their system of slavery doesnt work if they still allow indivialism and idealism as they are growng up. And this charcter is very much human. She repeats the same mistakes which is so fustrating because she doesnt think about what the consequences will be. And each time the consequence is that someone she loves dies. She doesnt realize that she is making the same mistakes either.

Other than weilding a lot more power than any of the other girls she doesnt show much leadership qualities. She acts very young and reckless and really doesnt even know what she is fighting for. Yes bring down the tyrants but then what? It was only mentioned once what would happen after. And Luciene was the real main leader, who she chose not to even try to save. Its important to remember to keep in mind that she is only a tool, a solider in this army. Definetly not the brains behind it.

The narrator does a good job of speaking clearly and pronounciation. Sometimes character voices get mixed up though and I wish there was more differences in speach. The narrator could do different paces of fast and slow because right now everyone speaks at the same slow pace. Otherwise she has a pleasant voice to listen to and makes it easy to follow along.
