Publisher Description

In football, as in life, the value we place on people changes with the rules of the games they play.
When we first meet the young man at the center of this extraordinary and moving story, he is one of thirteen children by a mother addicted to crack; he does not know his real name, his father, his birthday, or any of the things a child might learn in school. And he has no serious experience playing organized football.
What changes? He takes up football, and school, after a rich, Evangelical, Republican family plucks him from the mean streets. Their love is the first great force that alters the world’s perception of the boy, whom they adopt. The second force is the evolution of professional football itself.
In THE BLIND SIDE, Lewis shows us a largely unanalyzed but inexorable trend in football working its way down from the pros to the high school game, where it collides with the life of a single young man to produce a narrative of great and surprising power.

The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game

A great listen, the idea that this is true with real people and real time make it even more interesting, I liked Moneyball, but loved this book. As I write this Michael Ohr is a Senior in College, his story and strength and maybe a little luck are to me a great inspiration. Coming from a poor family, with no father, the power of spirit and the simple strength of Michael, his adopted family, is a good story and gives more than a few lessons to use in life. We all have someone we would like to "put on the bus" as this story explains.

Not what I expected.

I wanted to read this book because I saw the previews for the movie. I was hoping that I would be reading about Michael's story. I did know that football was a big part of that story but I didn't buy this book to read about football! So, if you don't mind listening to A LOT of football information and only a little about Michael, then you won't be disappointed. But if you wanted to read about Michael, it is not for you. I wish I hadn't bought it.
