A steamy small town romance with a broody Artist. A must read!
I loved this book! The Bluff is book two in the Calamity Montana series, although they are stand alones, I would highly recommend you read book one, The Bribe, first as you will truly understand Everly a bit more. In The Bluff, Everly is stuck spinning her wheels; afraid of life outside her little apartment, afraid of what comes next in her life and feeling more like a burden to those that know her. Hux is a recluse in the small town of Calamity. He’s a single father, ex-con and a successful local artist. During a chance meeting at a bar one night, Everly and Hux feel their immediate chemistry which leads directly to the bedroom! Of course, they can’t get enough of each other, but neither one is looking for a relationship either.
Everly happens to over hear a conversation Hux was having with his attorney that propels her to make an offer Hux can’t refuse; a marriage of convenience to help him win custody of his daughter. I was a bit in awe of Everly, I felt her pain and her hurt everytime someone broke her down; between Hux, his daughter, his ex-wife, his friend, his business partner; the punches just kept coming for her and she stood her ground and took it. But in the end, when all she was looking for was for someone to be on her side for a change, to choose her, to believe in her; she didn’t find it, especially not in Hux. Can they overcome the betrayal?
Willa Nash (aka. Devney Perry) has this incredible way of writing her books so that you feel every last feeling of her characters and this was no different. I was so moved by Everly and this story!
