Extracts from the book:
Life encroaching
Life coaching on the other hand is not about the past. It works on the assumption that what you make of your life is up to you. Coachees need to take careful note of this, for it is the main term and condition in every life coaching agreement. In short, success is up to the coachee to address here and now, the coachee has the answers, and the coachee needs to make his or her own changes.

The road less travelled
As the Chinese proverb has it (one of many obscure Chinese proverbs that are of considerable value to the life coach, because they only really make sense to the recipient well after the session has ended: 'If you don't change the direction you are travelling in, you are going to arrive at where you're going.'

Discipline disciples
Apostles of life coaching will point out that everybody has something they would like 'fixed', even if it's something that without benefit of alcohol and intimacy, they might not choose to share with the wider world.

Belief relief
Life coaches keep their own beliefs pretty much to themselves. You won't catch a life coach saying, "I believe" very often, unless it's followed by "...I'm seeing you again next Tuesday" or "we've made a lot of progress". They will shy away from anything that to the coachee smacks of a personal conviction or belief, on the grounds that (as any experienced bluffer will remind listeners in world weary tone), it's the coachee's belief that counts.

Don't waste your money...

This author has an obvious agenda and is probably losing therapy clients in droves, so his only alternative was to degrade coaching. The author went out of his way to look for every degrading analogy he could muster to dis-credit what is obviously his competitors in the coaching world. I felt embarrased at times for the writer because it was that childish, like a little kid in a sandbox (there goes an accurate analogy...). I went through 3 very expensive and unproductive years of traditional therapy, or as this author states "professional" therapy. It had me blaming everyone and everything, living the bad movie that was my life over and over again. Have you ever watched a bad movie more than once? So why does traditional therapy insist on that? I finally ended the torture and hired a coach at the urging of a friend who had a great experience. This author would suggest all coaches are just lying drunks who are uneducated manipulators and who falsify emotions to make more money, with just "2 tricks in their bag", but nothing could have been further from this books description of what Life Coaching is, what my coach did for me, or what kind of educated professional my coach was. It also created DRAMATICALLY better results for me than "Professional therapy". In less than 90 days of coaching I felt free from what I called "My Monster", or depression. I found a new calling making almost double what I was making previously, as my coach pressed with me until he got me the results I was looking for, and I now have the life I have always wanted. Therapy was like haveing a band-aide pulled slowly from your skin, painfully ripping each hair out to uncover the wound beneath, but coaching just pulled it right off in one quick and realatively painless motion and allowed the wound to heal naturally as it should. The authors time would have been better served explaining the benefits of therapy... which I guess is tough to do these days, or maybe he should have spent his time getting training as a coach so he could actually help people get better instead of offering such a degrading point of view on the subject.
