Publisher Description

Ian Fleming was a true visionary, a dualistic individual who spent much time in his early life in a "special" school in Austria. It was there that he learned the sacred ways of the early Gnostics and Occultists and developed the very root of the enigmatic secret and eternal charisma of James Bond.

Fleming explicitly said that Bond was Manichean, a distinctly Gnostic concept. The Bond books and films are strategically seeded with alchemical and Gnostic references for those with "the eyes to see". Fleming associated with mystics and initiated individuals around the globe.

In the Bond Code, we shall see how deep this web of the occult truly went. Fleming lived in a fantasy world that led him into a land of sinister and esoteric thought. He created his own alter-ego as a great alchemical work to fulfill his own tumultuous and chaotic mind, and he left behind a set of clues and codes for us to decipher.

Philip Gardiner finally unravels the secret of James Bond, piece by piece, radically reappraising everything we thought we knew about this secret agent and his creator.

Intriguing and Well Supported

The author of the "HaHa" review below probably never listened to the podcast.
The fact is that Mr. Gardiner has done an admirable job of providing some very interesting biographical information on Ian Fleming and affording the reader (or listener) with a new perspective from which to understand and enjoy the James Bond stories.
From admittedly circumstancial evidence suggesting that Fleming's mother was connected to the Rosicrucians to the established fact that Fleming, as a teenager, not only met Carl Jung but actually translated one of the great psychologist's lectures on Paracelsus into English, Mr. Gardiner documents Fleming's early interest in alchemy. Mr. Gardiner then proceeds to document Fleming's contacts with Aleister Crowley through the British intelligence services in WWII. Finally, Mr. Gardiner reveals how Mr. Fleming builds the Bond stories on an alchemical template and uses them to explore the conflicts within Fleming himself.
It may well be that Mr. Gardiner was hoping to capitalize on the success of THE DAVINCI CODE in choosing "THE BOND CODE" for his title. If that is so (and it almost certainly is) then Mr. Gardiner made one clear mistake in his choice of title; for, in truth, Mr. Gardiner's work does NOT attempt to build any argument for a conspiracy of any kind which might be revealed by deciphering some "Bond Code".
That one mistake aside, the work itself should prove very interesting to any student of Fleming, James Bond or the Occult ....and particularly delightful to any student of all three of these subjects.
