From New York Times best seller Pepper Winters comes one of her best tales yet...
"What do you do when you meet your soul mate? No wait...that's too easy. What do you do when you meet your soul mate and have to spend a lifetime loving him in secret? I'll tell you what you do. You lie."
Ren was eight when he learned that love doesn't exist - that the one person who was supposed to adore him only cared how much he was worth. His mother sold him and for two years, he lived in terror.
But then...he ran.
He thought he'd run on his own. Turned out, he took something of theirs by accident and it became the one thing he never wanted and the only thing he ever needed.
I was young when I fell in love with him, when he switched from my world to my everything. My parents bought him for cheap labor, just like they had with many other kids, and he had the scars to prove it. At the start, he hated me, and I could understand why. For years he was my worst enemy, fiercest protector, and dearest friend. But by the end...he loved me. The only problem was, he loved me in an entirely different way to the way I loved him. And slowly, my secret drove us apart.
This is book #1 in The Ribbon Duet. I was pleasantly surprised with Ren & Della’s story. They struggled, yet persevered and overcame so many obstacles in life. Definitely not what I was expecting. Even though I was conflicted at times with certain situations, I enjoyed the storyline. I’m frustrated that it ends in a cliffhanger, but I’m eager to see how their story ends.
Will M Matt & Hayden Bishop did a great job portraying Ren and Della. They definitely made the story more entertaining.
A very compelling story
This book was compelling. It is very different from the author’s previous works and incredibly well-written. I read and loved the entire series when it was first written, and am now reviewing the audiobook. The narration was perfect and only made the book that much better. It was a complete masterpiece which kept me enthralled from beginning to end. The story of a trafficked boy who escaped with an infant girl who he raised to 18, despite his lack of resources and education. Narrated in the voices of both REN and Della, the reader is treated to their experiences and the evolution of their relationship over those 17 years. I adored this story and the audiobook and am positive that you will as well. I am voluntarily submitting this review after listening to a complementary copy.
Wow! This book.! It was definitely a tear jerker but oh so good! Pepper winters is such an amazing writer and this one was no different! I highly recommend!
