The Cloud of Unknowing

The Cloud of Unknowing is a spiritual guide on introspective prayer. The core concept of this work suggests that the way to know God is to forsake consideration of God's specific activities and qualities, and be brave enough to relinquish one's mind and ego to the domain of "unknowing", at which point one may begin to see the nature of God. The text was written anonymously in the latter half of the 14th century.
