The Confessions
Although this is not an unabridged version of Augustine's Confessions, the reader is excellent. His deep, young, clear voice is far more appropriate for Augustine's intellectual searching and emotional life as a young adult than are the older voices that read the unabridged, and perhaps more philosophically accurate translations. The reader is so very good and appropriate that you feel as if Augustine lives down the road, has become a good friend, and that his life of the 4th century could be occurring alongside your own. The price is excellent for either the perfect introduction to St. Augustine or to a more lively version of his timeless telling of his inner life. The unabridged version on iTunes is read by a much older man, is more poetic (thees and thous), and is a good translation of his Christian neoplatonic thinking in chapters 10 - 12. I have both, but never tire of Adam Dudley's "you are there" reading.
Voice is killing me
Maybe it’s just me but I cannot get past the voice. For a spiritual piece of work I need more emotion in the voice. This guy sounds like a machine.
