Publisher Description

In a meteoric career that covered only a dozen years, Robert E. Howard defined the sword and sorcery genre. In doing so, he brought to life the archetypal adventurer known to millions around the world as Conan the barbarian.

This collection features Howard at his finest and Conan at his most savage. Truly heroic fantasy at its best, this volume contains "The Servants of Bit-Yakin," "Beyond the Black River," "The Black Stranger," "The Man-Eaters of Zamboula," and "Red Nails," which is perhaps Conan's most famous adventure.

Great Books, long overdue. Minor Complaints

Howard is one of those writers that transcends the Pulps and creates something truly classic. His prose is visceral and exciting, a unique literary voice that reads like a hybrid of H.P. Lovecraft and Ian Flemming. These Del Rey editions are excellent and present the true Conan, unedited by other authors and appearing as they would have on the magazine racks of the mid-thirties.

I've been waiting for these books for a long time. I would have loved to have a different reader, this guy gets the job done and is better on the longer stories, but he takes some getting used to. There's nothing wrong with him, it's just that his voice does not compliment the stories and his delivery is dry for such lively writing. The omission of the appendicies in these "Unabridged" readings is dissapointing. These editions had amazing articles about Howards friendship with Lovecraft and the authors invention of the Hyborian age. Aside from these minor gripes, I'm very happy to finally own these audiobooks, and reccomend Howards Conan to anyone interested in the Pulps or Fantasy writing in general.

About Time!

Bring On More Howard audiobooks! I had read the books a few times but the voice actor here is top notch and to have them read to you can sometimes be even more immersive. Howard shines here. Long overdue. Bring on El Borak!
