Publisher Description

Night falls. It came like a malignant shadow with seductive promises of power. And somewhere in the night...a small girl smiled as her mother burned...asylum inmates slaughtered their attendants...in slimy tunnels once-human creatures gathered. Madness raged as the lights began to fade and humanity was attacked by an ancient, unstoppable evil.

I love James Herbert

Firstly. The Dark isn’t one of my favourite books from James Herbert; but don’t let that put you off of reading or listening to The Dark. I have always loved/liked most of the horror books written by James Herbert. To the UK he was our equivalent to American - Steven King. James Herbert’s ability to write such mind bending horror, always had its own kind of edge (for me). An interesting twist on his storytelling style that many other writers lack. Originality, with a dose of antisocial charm including smidgen of misogyny. The Dark isn’t written for modern (political correct) times, like most of JH’s books, it doesn’t offer any excuses to its reader, nor does give any apologies for tone towards women. It’s up the reader to remain open minded and remember this author is of a different time, and lived in a different political setting. With this being said; James Herbert isn’t just a brilliant writer of Horror Stories (some of which also became movies), he will always be a leading light in the Horror Genre. For this; JH is still loved & cherished by his Fans & Followers all over the world. Recently, I decided to replace ALL my reading books with audiobooks. What a difference the spoken word makes. I should have done this years ago!
I highly recommend trying James Herbert if you’re into the horror genre (and even if you’re not!) His writing and storytelling is STILL amazing and very deeply missed. R.I.P. James Herbert. Gone but Never Forgotten.
