Starts well... then falls flat
The Deep held a lot of promise at the beginning. Nick Cutter is masterful in his description and truly tremendous at detailing gore into words. I agree with some that there were some similarities with Event Horizon, but it is far from a rip off. And a good plot is a good plot. So I don’t have issue with that. What I did have issue with was the way the plot seemed to change course abruptly towards the end. I feel like if the Author had been able to extend and stay on the initial plot and storyline, this wouldn’t have fallen so flat for me. You’ll enjoy the first half.... then you’ll wonder why it took a wrong turn for a dead end.
Started strong…..then sank.
The whole story is interrupted my essential my family guy cut always to the main characters past during vital and tense moments sucking all the tension out of the room faster than the underwater facility within the book with realistically implode. Falling into the AND THEN approach to story telling instead of therefor or because of only to just before the stroke of midnight add in resident evil monsters and ancient beings that share the same name as how the main characters young son mispronounces the word figment. For a well crafted gory story by this author I suggest The Troop.
Cure for insomnia
I listen to this book every night to fall asleep. The voice really puts me to sleep in 30 minutes every single time. Who needs melatonin?!
