Publisher Description

New York Times bestselling psychologist Dr. Meg Jay uses real stories from real lives to provide smart, compassionate, and constructive advice about the crucial (and difficult) years we cannot afford to miss.

Our "thirty-is-the-new-twenty" culture tells us the twentysomething years don't matter. Some say they are a second adolescence. Others call them an emerging adulthood. Dr. Meg Jay, a clinical psychologist, argues that twentysomethings have been caught in a swirl of hype and misinformation, much of which has trivialized what is actually the most defining decade of adulthood.

Drawing from almost two decades of work with hundreds of clients and students, The Defining Decade weaves the latest science of the twentysomething years with the behind-closed-doors stories from twentysomethings, themselves. The result is a provocative read that provides the tools necessary to make the most of your twenties, and shows us how work, relationships, personality, social networks, identity, and even the brain can change more during this decade than at any other time in adulthood—if we use the time wisely.

The Defining Decade is a smart, compassionate and constructive book about the years we cannot afford to miss.

A MUST READ

Easily one of the best books I’ve ever read. It really focuses on the importance of now and how to plan your next steps towards your future.

The world is very different from 2012

I really want to like this, but it just feels out of date. Yes there are major themes that I can apply to my own life but the social landscape is completely different from 2012. Meg Jay seems trustworthy and thoughtful, but what about Tinder/ Instagram/ TikTok/ LinkedIn job boards/ the pandemic? I’d love a new edition with some advice on navigating a very different culture.

Stop what you’re doing and read this now.

Only 5 hours of my life spent hearing the powerful message and information Dr. Jay thankfully published. In my mid-twenties on my own self-growth journey I’ve felt lost and at times and like I’m spinning wheels. This book put so much into perspective and was a motivational wake-up call that gave me some solid direction. Relatable, interesting, and concise, I spent every minute of free time I had consuming this audiobook until it was through. I will be gifting this to my younger sibling about to enter their 20’s so that they may hear the realistic message you crave that no one tells you when you’re starting out. 5 stars; thank you Dr. Jay.
